International Science Fair glory for ML Sultan Primary

Nokwanda Shabalala and Melissa Robi were invited to the International Science Fair in Pretoria

After excelling at the Regional Science Fair in Ladysmith, ML Sultan Estcourt Primary School learners Nokwanda Shabalala and Melissa Robi were invited to the International Science Fair in Pretoria from October 1 to 5.

Educators as well as the Department of Education officials, Ms P Khubeka, Ms ENN Madondo and Ms NR Sithole, assisted these learners to not only explain the project but to also handle questions about the research.

The learners were both confident and articulate as they impressed the judges.  Both learners received a bronze medal, certificates, science expo T-shirt and jacket as well as back packs.

Melissa describes her experience as “overwhelming” and tough as they competed against 600 learners from all over the world.

The School Management Team wishes to thank educators, Ms Mahlamba and Mrs S Bhikraj for all their efforts in preparing learners to excel at this level.

Ms TP Mlambo, Mr SP Hadebe, Ms ZN Makatini and Mrs S Maniram must be thanked and commended for assisting learners to prepare their project. Members of the School Governing Body and parents must also be thanked for all their support.

The school hopes that this team continues with the research project even when they go to secondary school next year.
