Woman shot in leg in farm attack, manhunt launched

Farmers throughout the area have been mobilised

A woman has been taken to hospital after she was shot in the leg when she was attacked by armed men in her milk parlour on St. George’s farm on the Ngisane Road.

A volunteer, who went to the farm to assist, told the Courier that the woman, Corrie Janse van Rensburg, was in a stable condition.

She was shot in the upper leg with a small calibre firearm.

Local WhatsApp emergency groups are abuzz with information and updates as the district rallied to help find the gunmen.

Farmers sources confirmed that a car chase is currently in progress in the Hattingspruit/Sunset Rest road area. The men, believed to be four armed with AK47 rifles, made their getaway in an NDH Hi-Lux bakkie.

The bakkie on the farm suffered extensive damage when the men opened fire.

A bakkie owned by Mrs Janse van Rensburg’s brother,  Johann Ferreira, was found riddled with bullet holes.  Mr Ferreira was on his way to assist with his son, Jacques, and two workers when. upon passing the getaway bakkie on the Ngisane Road,  they came under fire.

Those assisting with the chase said it was understood that the men have since changed cars and are now in a red BMW.

Farmers throughout the area have been mobilized and security officers have joined the chase and the police are also assisting.
