8 car collisions a result of weekend weather

There were many car collisions over the past weekend in the Newcastle area, believed to be caused by the rainy weather.

Over the last two days, emergency services responded to eight collisions on the Amajuba Pass.

According to Jan Henk van Vuuren, spokesperson for WATCO Emergency Services, at least seven people including four children sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.

The majority of the accidents happened in the Laingsnek area.

The exact cause of the collisions is still unclear but it is believed that the rainy weather conditions contributed to all incidents.

Fortunately no serious injuries were recorded.

Motorists are urged to practise extreme caution when travelling.
