Hlengiwe Emmaculate Zulu will represent South Africa in Singapore next year at the Mrs Global Universal pageant.
Using criteria which includes character, intelligence and personality, Hlengiwe (45) outclassed nine others to claim the title Mrs Africa South Classic 2019, at the finale on December 1 at Buffelspoort, North West.

She sets off on her overseas trip on February 18 next year.
Hlengiwe, who was born and bred in Nongoma, but has spent her working career as a Newcastillian, attributes her success to her desire to bring dignity and change to the less fortunate, which was an integral part of her campaign endeavours.
“My campaign involved dignity, such as raising funds for sanitary towels in southern Africa and other poverty stricken areas.”
Working with impoverished communities and orphans on the continent, Hlengiwe explained the Mrs Africa South Classic pageant was more focused on reaching out to the less fortunate and affecting change in these areas.
Her campaign aimed to restore dignity to these African residents.
A major part of Hlengiwe’s efforts raised funds for Dignity Dreams washable sanitary towels, which last four years and are said to carry less health risks than traditional disposable products.
“We were also judged on other aspects of ourselves, such as who we are, our brilliance, intelligence and character. The judges seek women who can represent the pageant anywhere in the world.”
Beyond Mrs Africa South Classic, Hlengiwe has committed to continuing her charity work and giving hope to the hopeless, despairing and desperate.
The pageant has also given her new insight into her own character.
Hlengiwe said competing taught her to believe in herself, gave her a new perspective on the world and ‘allowed her to meet the true woman inside her’.
“It allowed me to live the life I’ve always wanted by being helpful and mindful of others.”
While Hlengiwe understands one person cannot change the world, she is an advocate of the notion that any good change is worth making.

This she plans to do by giving love and a smile.
“Don’t wait for companies or the government to do anything for you. It isn’t much more one needs than to give them hope, positivity and a smile.”
While Hlengiwe is eager to represent her country abroad, she is asking for cash donations to buy her ticket to Singapore.
She is therefore appealing to the business sector for sponsorship.
