GALLERY: All hands on deck for Vryheid Tourism Roadshow 2018
Officials from the municipality stopped traffic to hand out refreshments, goodie bags and road safety advice to passing motorists.
FOR the first time in many years, the Vryheid Tourism Roadshow took place without the direct input of Alet Swanepoel and her absence was certainly felt.
However, despite the void left behind by Alet following her retirement earlier this year, the roadshow must go on, and it did, although not without a few hiccups. Initially scheduled to take place on December 6, the roadshow was rescheduled for December 12 and there was certainly no shortage of AbaQulusi representatives beneath the blazing sun on the Melmoth road side of town.

AbaQulusi Mayor, Jerry Sibiya was accompanied by the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Mncedisi Maphisa, AbaQulusi Speaker, Michael Khumalo and many other dignitaries and officials from the municipality as they stopped traffic to hand out refreshments, goodie bags and road safety advice to passing motorists.
Vryheid Tourism Chairman, Gustav Röhrs said, “The project, as it stands at present, has lost its entire target and is a project which should be run by the private sector with support from the local municipality. This is indeed the way it was always done in the past,” he adds. “The main reason why this problem has arisen is the fact that the local tourism office has been without a proper tourism officer for more than two months… an office that, in the past, was ranked as one of the top offices in the province. At this stage, the town and its community does not benefit from the project at all…”
