BREAKING: Three-car crash claims one life on the N11

"I tried to cut his seat belt to free him from the car. It was too late, he died in front of me."

Three cars collided on the N11 leaving one man dead and numerous passengers injured.

The crash occurred at around 4.50pm this afternoon.

The driver, passenger and a toddler in the first vehicle were transported to hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle also sustained injuries and is being attended to at the scene.

An eyewitness says before emergency services could arrive, he rushed to the third vehicle when he noticed the man (driver) was still breathing.

“I tried to cut his seat belt to free him from the car. It was too late, he died in front of me,” said the distraught man.

The Newcastle Advertiser extends its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The portion of the N11 remains affected, motorists using this road should drive with caution.

Officials have started conducting preliminary investigations.

The exact cause of the accident is unknown at this stage.
