The matriculants of 2018 received their results on January 3 this year.
The top achievers were invited to the Durban ICC to attend the official results ceremony on January 4.
Students from Ladysmith High School (LHS) and Windsor High School attended this ceremony, where they were given awards and certificates in recognition of their hard work.
Five LHS Grade 12s were summoned to the district offices of the Department of Education. Here, they and their parents were invited to attend the official results ceremony for all of KZN at the Durban ICC on Friday, January 4.
The announcement that the top 5 achievers in the uThukela District were all learners from Ladysmith High School was met with thunderous applause.
LHS achieved a 98.5% pass rate. The top five achievers came from this school.
Ladysmith High School:
Pass rate: 98.5%.
Top learners:
Andisiwe Gwala achieved seven A’s; Caithlyn Reddy achieved seven A’s; Rishay Mahadeo achieved seven A’s; Zaheer Jogiat achieved seven A’s; Neelan Gounden achieved seven A’s; Niveshen Pillay and Phiwokuhle Xulu also did exceptionally well in earning seven A and six A symbols respectively.
A further six learners achieved five A symbols each: Erin Botha; Ntombenhle Makhubu; Christene Maree; Nokukhanya Ndlela; Thaijna Sewparsad; and Zwelisha Zulu.
Four A symbols each were earned by: Kelda Maitland; Kristen Radford; Maryke Rich; Ashleigh Skinner; Annamika Somaru; and Charné Williams.
LHS is also proud of the fact that a total of 234 subject distinctions were achieved. This year was a particularly big group of Grade 12s – a total of 203 wrote their final exams. 159 recorded Bachelor’s passes.
Emhlwaneni High School in Driefontein achieved a 100% pass rate. A number of seven A’s, six A’s and five A’s were achieved by the learners. Well done!
Harvest High School also achieved a 100% pass rate. Top learner:Bulelani Marhwa achieved six A’s and he also passed AP Maths with IEB.
Sakhelwe High School achieved a 92.3% pass rate.
Top learner: Manelisi Buthelezi achieved six A’s.

Islamic Educational Centre:
Pass rate of 86%.
Steadville Secondary School:
Pass rate: 85%.
Top learners: Zamangwane Hlatswayo achieved four A’s; Sifiso Jula achieved two A’s.
Ladysmith Secondary School:
Pass rate: 84%.
Top learner: Luyanda Zwane achieved six A’s.
Windsor High School:
Pass rate: 74.3%.
Top learner: Chido Calista Chabuka achieved six A’s.

Joseph Shabalala School:
Pass rate: 72.8%.
Top learner: Nompilo Hadebe.
Bhevu High School:
Pass rate: 64%.
Top learner: Samkelo Hadebe.
The Education Department (uThukela office) has not yet officially released the names of the top candidates.
