Drakensberg Secondary School was honoured with a visit by Angie Motshekga, the Minister of Basic Education.
The Minister addressed the staff and governing body last Thursday, stating that the school’s impressive and consistent results, being a state school with a large population of diverse race, socio-economic background of learners and experiencing numerous challenges, which is common to all public schools, has been acknowledged by the national government.

She thanked all stakeholders and especially the Principal Mr Sewlal and staff for their dedication and efforts to excel despite the odds.
Minister Motshekga was very humble and encouraging; being realistic of the challenges posed and said that she understood the adversities that educators faced, having been in the profession herself.

She also shared that she chose to visit Drakensberg Secondary School first as she wished to lift her spirits.
The school was also identified by the department as a fully functional and progressive institution, considering the overwhelming success attained over the past two decades.
The Principal and management were commended for excellent leadership.
