Self-taught artist aspires for national fame

"My earliest memories of drawing are when my mother bought me one of those small slates you draw on with chalk."

MEET local young artist, Smanga Msweli, who is hoping to draw his way to a brighter future.

Originally from the Coronation part of AbaQulusi, the 22-year old said that he has been drawing for as long as he can remember.

“No one taught me how to draw. My earliest memories of drawing are when my mother bought me one of those small slates you draw on with chalk, I just started drawing from then and perfected my art as I grew,” he said with a smile.

Smanga sees himself going very far as an artist and hopes to one day draw art that will be placed in national museums.

“I’m really hoping to find people who might be interested in investing in my art, or who could point me in the right direction with regards to what I can do in order to gain the exposure I need,” he said.

Until he finds the assistance he seeks, Smanga said that he will continue to work on improving his art as he believes there is always room for improvement where art is concerned.
