Endumeni residents call for bill boycott over ‘coffee coloured tap water’

Residents are calling for a water payment boycott as brown tap water continues to affect households across the uMzinyathi District Municipality area.

Endumeni residents have called for a boycott of water payments as complaints about ‘coffee-coloured’ water continue to plague households across the municipal area.

The discoloured water has affected homes for months, but residents say the situation has worsened this week, prompting calls for the uMzinyathi District Municipality to be held accountable.

“Our white school shirts are stained because we are forced to wash in this brown water. It is also affecting our health,” said one irate resident.

Residents voice their frustration

Readers who spoke to the Courier expressed anger and frustration, with several calling on consumers to stop paying for a service they say is failing them.

“That is a disgrace. They should be ashamed of themselves,” one reader commented.

“We must stop paying for water. We have to buy water for the whole month!” said another.

Others echoed the call for a boycott, insisting that payments should only resume once the problem has been resolved.

“Yes, stop paying for water until they sort it out,” one reader said.

The uMzinyathi District Municipality has been contacted for comment. Its response will be published once received.
