
Once clean, Park Lane is now a wasteland.
Bin bags and refuse has been dumped in this area, and even raw sewage is pouring down a nearby dam. It is believed that people living in the area are the culprits.
This problem of illegal dumping and running sewage has evidently been ongoing for years.
Sewage pours out of three overflowing manholes into a dam in the same street.

IFP councillor Abbas Warasally says he is disturbed that the community seems to want to live in such filthy conditions.

“I have made several requests via the media to report offenders to Protection Services, as this issue has become worse. Public Safety officers are out in full force issuing fines to offenders who dump illegally.”
Officers say they patrol these areas, as well as attend to complaints of illegal dumping. Speaking to a Public Safety officer, he says the fine is R5000 and an offender will be fined immediately.
“We are determined to stop this activity and we will fine offenders on the spot. We need to keep our town clean,” said a Public Safety officer.
There is a dump site in Acaciavale where people can deposit their waste, instead of just dumping it anywhere. The dump site is open from Monday to Sunday, 7.30am to 4.10pm.
