Still no hope for ‘dead woman’

In the midst of all of this Samkelisiwe's children had to drop out of college as she could not access her late husband's pension payout since she has been declared dead.

Samkelisiwe Kunene (51) can’t believe that the Department of Home Affairs has left her for dead.
Literally. She says she ‘almost died of shock’ when she was told that ‘according to the system’ she died in 2016.

The mother of four has since been unable to sleep peacefully. A story was published in December regarding her ordeal, but to date, she has not received any help from the Department of Home Affairs.
“I have been to Home Affairs three times already and the last time I went I was told by one of the managers that my file at the Department of Immigration was deleted therefore I should wait for their call,” exclaimed Samkelisiwe, “this confused me because it seems like no one is taking my issue seriously, I have never received a call from Home Affairs. Instead, I have to continually go there myself to find out what is happening”.

The Courier contacted the Department of Home Affairs in Msinga and was told by one of the immigration officers (who wished to remain anonymous) that they are aware of the matter but at the moment there is not much they can do.
They suggested Samkelisiwe contact Dundee Home Affairs and request them to resend her application.
