Her first teaching post was at the Little Flower School in Ixopo. She began teaching at Estcourt Primary School in 1976 and has taught at the school for 43 years.

As was customary back then, she climbed the ladder from educator post level one to Head of Department and then Principal in 1992. At that stage, the school had R300 in the bank and not a single labour saving device.

Today, the school boasts all the labour saving devices, including computers and being on the internet. Thanks to her visionary leadership, the school’s enrolment increased from 300 to 771 and the staff size increased from 12 to 32.

All while working at the school, being a wife and a mother. Mrs Lambert’s leadership qualities were recognised beyond the school boundaries when she was elected church warden in St Matthew’s Anglican Church, Deputy Chairperson of the National Professional Teacher’s Organisation of South Africa (NAPTOSA) in KZN – having missed the position of chairperson by one vote and Chairperson of the Colita Christmas Club.

She has been a programme director at family functions and delivered eulogies. Mrs Lambert has also been invited as a guest speaker at numerous functions and the Umtshezi Principal’s Forum elected her as the Treasurer.

Last Friday, a farewell function was held at the Estcourt Primary School Hall. Family, friends and colleagues bid Mrs Lambert a fond farewell and wished her well for her retirement.
