Residents warned of planned water shut down on Wednesday
Hail, rain brought some relief but not enough yet...
Endumeni have been warned of a planned 10-hour shutdown this Wednesday, February 27, of the Tayside raw water abstraction point in order to upgrade the pumps.
“Raw water reserves have been built up as to attempt to accommodate for this shutdown and not to have an effect on the water supply to Dundee and Glencoe,” said Mandisa Mbuyisa, Umzinyathi District Municipality’s communication officer.
Water shedding will still be enforced from 10am to 4pm and from 10pm to 4am. Residents are urged to use water sparingly but also to prepare and store water for usage during the shutdown, as the shutdown will be the whole day.
“Dam levels are alarmingly low and communities are urged to use water sparingly as the drought is not over yet. Water is life! Save Water Now!”
Over 45mm of rain was measured on Friday evening following a severe hail and rain storm.
The hail storm was caught on camera by Courier freelancer, Johann Hamman:
