Olwethu Mdinisi, in Grade 8, was one of four athletes from Sarel Cilliers selected to be part of the Umzinyathi team that competed in the KZN trials in Durban last weekend. This was her first ever trip to Durban and with her small stature, shy smile and bare feet, she stole the hearts of every person at the stadium.
She managed a 4th place in the 200m on Friday, after winning her heat and semifinal races. On Sunday, she ran her heart out and managed a second place in the 100m for girl u/15 and received a silver medal. The school is immensely proud of her achievement. Lindelwa Mdlalose also achieved a 4th place in shot put for girls u/19, with a personal best.
Sarel Cilliers wins Bridge Building Competition for a second year
On Thursday, February 21, three teams from Sarel Cilliers took part in the SAICE bridge building competition, hosted by Harrismith High School. The Grade 11 team consisting of Janz, Thubelihle and Dihan won with a bridge that could bear 64,5kg. The grade 12 team was 4th and the Grade 10s were 8th.
There were a total of 30 teams and each team received 25 sticks and glue. The height restriction was 150mm and length 650mm. After seven hours the bridges were finished and were tested with weights to breaking point.
Thank you to Mr Slabbert and Mr Du Plessis for great coaching and the effort they put in to make us grow, learn and win.
