‘Remember, the freedom we are enjoying now was not free’ #IMadeMyMark

Vryheid's electoral officer, PJ Ndlovu, reminds residents that the right to vote was fought for.

98 000 registered voters in AbaQulusi will be among the 26 million South Africans who cast their vote during the country’s sixth democratic national elections on May 8.

PJ Ndlovu has been the municipal electoral officer for AbaQulusi for more than eight years and is available to handle any complaints or answer any questions regarding the election process.

This will be the second national election that PJ has helped co-ordinate in AbaQulusi, and he describes his first experience as, “scary.”

“I was new and there was a lot I still had to learn, but with the all the support I had from the IEC, we had no issues. There are always new challenges during every voting process and, as much as we try, we cannot be prepared for everything. It means that we have to be comfortable with thinking on our feet,” said PJ.

He continued, “I want this election to be a good process. The freedom we are enjoying now was not free. It was fought for. What makes me happy as an electoral officer, is when the losing party is also smiling with the confidence that the election process was free and fair. Then you know you have done a good job.”
