UPDATE: No bail for WhatsApp murder accused

A formal bail application will be held in a week's time.

The 38-year-old man accused of murdering his girlfriend in Mondlo was not granted bail at his court appearance today (August 18).

Previous court appearance

The accused first appeared in court on August 12, following his arrest in connection with the woman’s death. He is accused of attacking and strangling the woman after allegedly discovering WhatsApp messages indicating that she was involved in an affair.

The woman’s 24-year-old daughter found her mother’s body in the back of a bakkie and alerted police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

The case was remanded to Tuesday, August 25, for a formal bail application.
