Ezakheni residents live in darkness due to streetlights not working

People are living in 1-roomed RDP houses and question the use of municipal funds to erect streetlights

According to Ezakheni B-Section residents, streetlights were installed in 2017 but have never served their purpose. They say the lights don’t work and they are still living in the dark when the sun sets.

What’s worse is that most people have one-roomed RDP houses and say it would have been better if the money spent on installing the lights had been used to help build proper houses. “I am not trying to dictate what the municipality must do with its money, but we are squashed into small houses with our families. The streetlights are not helping anyone, so why not build bigger houses instead?” said resident Siyabonga Mbatha.

Ward councillor Dumisani Radebe would not comment on whether the streetlights have ever functioned properly since being installed two years ago.
