R10 000 worth of cabling stolen

Cable theft has plagued Dundee for years

Over 38 metres of telephone cabling was stolen from near Forestdale over the Easter weekend, police have said.

The theft was discovered by a security guard posted near Forestdale. He had knocked off duty at about 4.30pm on Thursday, April 18, and reported that everything was in order.

However, when he returned on the morning of Good Friday he found that the cabling had been stolen. The value of the theft is around R10 000, police confirmed.

It is not clear if the theft has affected communications in the area. Some months ago a theft near the industrial area knocked out communications for several businesses for weeks.
