An extensive search to find her came to a tragic halt on the afternoon of April 29. Colenso Police, Ladysmith Police K9 Unit and a member from tracker searched the area where Ms Ndaba’s white VW Polo – registration number NE 27629 – had stopped.
The K9 Unit picked up an odour near a manhole and that was where the lifeless body of Ms Ndaba was recovered.
“The manhole contained cabling from either Eskom or Telkom. This manhole was between the Aloe’s Shop and Cornfields turnoff, about six meters from the R103,” said police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi.
Ms Ndaba taught at KwaDlamini High School in the Kwa Dlamini area of Ntabamhlophe. A concerned family member, who was unable to reach her telephonically, contacted the police on April 26 and reported her missing.
The tracker of Ms Indaba’s car showed that the vehicle was at house number 4 at Sixth Avenue in Colenso, that Friday at 6.50pm.
“The vehicle drove off at 12.06am from Colenso along the R74. The ignition was on and off along the way to Greytown where it was found abandoned. The woman was nowhere to be found and her cell phone was off,” explained Captain Nyathi.
Ms Ndaba was a mother to her 12-year-old son and two-year-old daughter.
Her loving stepmother Ma Gumede Ndaba recalled ‘Noma’ during happier times.
“Noma was always smiling, and reserved. We will miss her for being the humble person she was. I always thought if anything happened to me, she could take care of the family but now she has left us. Rest in peace, Noma,” said Ma Gumede Ndaba somberly.
Ms Ndaba’s uncle Nicholus Zuma said he was taken aback by the news of her passing.
“I was very shocked when I was informed. It was a very sudden death. I wish the culprits are jailed and sentenced to life imprisonment.”
Ms Ndaba was laid to rest on May 4 in Colenso.
A murder case has been filed at the Colenso police station for further investigation. The cause of death will be determined once the post-mortem results return.
