The Estcourt Ratepayers Association awaits meeting

The association is in limbo as members await a meeting with the new Administrator

There has been an ominous silence around the activities of the Ratepayers Association and some residents have been questioning the reason why.

After being formed in October last year, the local association held meetings, the first of which was a public meeting where several concerns from the audience were noted.

The subsequent meetings saw mainly committee members and a small number of interested residents attending.

Some members of the Ratepayers Association held a meeting with former municipal Administrator Thandolwethu Manda, which was described as ‘fruitful. A follow-up meeting with managers and directors was in the pipeline but never materialised.

Mr Manda’s resignation in January and the appointment of Dumisani Vilakazi as Administrator has put the brakes on the association’s plans to seek answers timeously and report back to the community.

Ratepayers Association Chairman Mahomed Ally Osman said that a request for a meeting with the new Administrator has been made.

“We are waiting on a reply from the municipality. With the election campaigning, I think it could be after May 8. The Administrator has been too busy to meet with us,” commented Mr Osman.

He added that the association remains committed to seek answers and solutions to the concerns raised by ratepayers.
