“There is no royal road for success, but after success every road becomes royal,” – unknown.
This quote explains exactly how Landbou felt after the past weekend.
On May 23, the ‘Ossie’ team took the road to Pietermaritzburg, to go and showcase its ‘ossies’ at the Royal Youth Show.
For Landbou, it is always a long road to travel.

It begins in January each year, and by the end of May, one bakkie, one minibus and one truck with thirteen steers and thirteen learners, two teachers, a farm worker, a guardian and one farm manager, travelled to Pietermaritzburg for this prestigious show.
On Friday, the learners had to wash their ‘ossies’ and prepare them for the show on Saturday.
On the Saturday (May 25), the following royal awards were awarded to Landbou: Classes over 500 kilograms – first, second and third place; best crossbreed – first, second and third place.
“We won the Fatstock Super Ox class with Siyadumisa Buthelezi’s Bonsmara, and he won the Champion Animal on Show. On Sunday at the Showmanship Show, we came second, third and fourth in the heat, with Nokwanda Maduma ending third in the final round.”
On Tuesday at the Beef Carcass Competition, Landbou won the Champion Group of four, where the percentages of the best three make up the entry.

Taking into consideration that Landbou breeds its own cattle, it is a magnificent achievement.
“We are super proud. We are so proud, it feels like we are living the royal life here at Landbou and we in fact are the royal life! Congratulations to each and every one involved in this royal team from Landbou!”
Landbou thanks Weston Boys’ College for hosting the group.
Every year, the ‘ossie’ learners meet up with friends at Weston College, and the school also congratulates the college and other agricultural institutions for their achievements.
Landbou commenced with mid-year examinations on May 27.
Learners are studying hard and teachers are hard at work setting papers and marking, to finish off the second term by June 14.
