'We thank DWO Maharaj for his dedication in acting so efficiently. Our only hope now is that justice will be served'

A 26-year-old man has been arrested;  hours after the fatal stabbing of a Glencoe man yesterday.

The suspect was taken in by police officials in connection with the death of 28-year-old Jayson Naidoo, who died after an alleged argument broke out between four friends. Jayson’s uncle, Alan Pillay of Glencoe, told the Courier his nephew and three others were together near a cluster of trees on Karel Landman Street, adjacent to the railway junction.

It is believed at about 3pm a quarrel ensued, during which Jayson was stabbed in the neck. One of his friends called an ambulance for help. Jayson was taken to Dundee Hospital but died while being treated. The stabbing was reported to the Glencoe SAPS, and within two hours the suspect was arrested at his home.

The suspect will appear in the Glencoe Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, on a murder charge. Mr Pillay praised Detective Warrant Officer Maharaj of the Glencoe Detective Branch, for the swift arrest of the suspect.

“We are completely shattered by the senseless murder of our Jayson. We thank DWO Maharaj for his dedication in acting so efficiently. Our only hope now is that justice will be served,” concluded Mr  Pillay.

The Courier extends its condolences to the family of the deceased, and wishes them strength during this time.
