St John’s Poor Purse assists 20 families

The team distributed food parcels to families in Colita

The members of St John’s Poor Purse set out early last Saturday morning to shop for food items. And that was not all – they bagged what they had purchased with care, managing to create 20 food hampers containing basic food supplies such as tinned fish, beans and samp, to name but a few.

The team met in Colita where they distributed the hampers to various families, many of which only have one breadwinner.

“We received heartfelt thanks from the people we could assist,” explained St John’s Poor Purse chairperson Rose Singh.

The St John’s Poor Purse group hand out food hampers twice a year; once ahead of winter and then again towards the end of the year.

They also assist other locals with food items, monthly, who are identified as needy by the Ithembalethu Outreach Project. Funds are raised during the year through cake sales, raffles and donations to make these distributions.
