UPDATE: Knifeman shot, injured in attempted robbery

A quick response by security officials and SAPS foiled an attempted robbery at Ackermans on Wednesday evening during which one of the robbers was shot and injured.
Sipho Ngcobo of Qomkufa Security said his guards and SAPS had responded to a call shortly at around 6.15pm.
When they arrived one of the robbers, who had threatened staff with a firearm, had fled. An accomplice, who was carrying a crowbar and a knife, was shot and injured in the thigh when he attempted to attack a police officer.
The store was searched to ascertain if the robber had disposed of the firearm in the shop but nothing was found.
Mr Ngcobo said no staff were injured in the incident. Nothing had been stolen. He praised his guards and the police for their rapid response. “It is this kind of action that makes our town safer,” he said.
