Albert Street refuse problem frustrates resident

Residents have been urged to place their refuse out only on collection days

Despite several pleas to the residents of Centurion in Albert Street about domestic refuse placed on the pavement, this continues unabated.

Angela Keyter, who lives opposite Centurion flats, says that the residents place their domestic refuse on the sidewalk on non-collection days. This usually results in an eyesore of black bags in various states of damage lying on the sidewalk for days at a time. Mrs Keyter has made several attempts to bring up this concern with residents, even resorting to a letter in the Estcourt News.

“I am truly sick of the rubbish at Centurion. But this falls on deaf ears with the municipality,” said an exasperated Mrs Keyter, who is at her wit’s end and even suggested a front-page story to jolt residents and municipal authorities into action.

“I would like to see residents placing their refuse in black bags and keeping their refuse inside until Tuesdays,” she added.

A sign outside the flat warns against dumping, but some residents seem oblivious.

Another site of illegally dumped domestic refuse that irks Mrs Keyter is at the railway bride near Railway Street. Piles of litter can be seen lining the sides of the bridge.
