Motorists braced for more road closures

Information provided by local farmers indicates protest action will flare up again soon.

Motorists should prepare for another round of road closures in the Nquthu and Rorke’s Drift areas on Thursday.

Farmers, who spoke to the Courier on condition they not be named, said they were informed of protest action, which would include the blocking of roads with debris so as to disrupt traffic.

Last week, similar protests claimed 1 life in Nquthu after a man attempted to disarm a police officer. 3 others, including 2 policemen, were injured.

Protesters handed over a memorandum to the Nquthu Municipality, demanding  election promises  be met. Threats were also made to burn down Nquthu Municipality and Nquthu Police Station.

Protests that closed the Wasbank/ Elandslaagte road last week appear to have simmered down for now.
