7 men aged between 20 and 32 are due to appear at the Gluckstadt Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, facing a murder charge.

They were arrested a few hours after they allegedly killed a man during a shooting incident, which unfolded after a cattle owner and a group of men went to the house of another local suspected of cattle theft.

“Upon entering the man’s property, they were apparently ambushed and shot at,” said SAPS provincial spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane.

Fanana Masondo (32) was shot and killed during the alleged ambush. The group who was looking for the stolen cattle fled after the shooting broke out.

A case of murder was later opened at the Gluckstadt Police Station. Police officers responded to the report of the shooting immediately and initiated an investigation. Following a speedy response, police officials arrested 7 suspects.

In another incident, police officers from Msinga arrested a suspect (20) for killing his twin brother at Keatsdrift yesterday. The suspect is due to appear at the Msinga Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

It is alleged the twin brothers were at home when they became embroiled in an argument. One was stabbed several times in the body and died instantly. A case of murder was opened at Msinga Police Station.
