FCS Units secure nine life sentences

"Units will continue to intensify their investigations and contest any crime against women and children."

Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Units in KwaZulu-Natal have secured 9 life sentences in August, for crimes committed against women and children.

A total of 327 suspects were arrested for sexually-related cases and 42 convictions were secured during this period. Other cases remain under investigation while some are still pending at various courts province-wide.

Those who have been convicted were sentenced for crimes including rape, murder, kidnapping, assault GBH (grievous bodily harm), attempted rape, robbery and child abandonment. In one case, the accused was sentenced to 3 life terms for rape.

“The units will continue to intensify their investigations and contest any crime against women and children,” said KZN SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele.
