Endumeni maidens at annual Reed Dance

Prayers were said to end the surge of violence against women and children

Maidens from the Endumeni area gathered in front of the Municipality waiting for transport to the annual Reed Dance.

They sang and prayed for peace and at end to violence against women and children which has sparked outrage across the country.

This significant cultural event is held Nyokeni Place in Nongoma in northern KwaZulu-Natalusually in the first weekend of September. Thousands of young girls from across KZN spent the weekend there where they were addressed by the king’s daughter, Princess Cebolabo.

The monarch is expected to address the maidens later in the day.

KZN premier Sihle Zikalala was also in attendance.
