All role players met the learners in a classroom at Bhekundi Secondary in the Nkwezela Section of Wembezi.
The learners and guests were seated ahead of the school shoe handover to 15 deserving learners.
Words of gratitude were passed to everyone involved, as well as some wise words to the learners to thrive, despite the challenges they face.
The sponsors, local business people Nana Mchunu and Nozulu Kheswa, echoed each other’s sentiments in saying: “We complain about the youth, but what do we do to help them? We cannot expect everything to come from the municipality; we can plough back, due to the support we get.”

This initiative was headed by Councillor Zeldah Sikhosana, under the banner of Operation Sukuma Sakhe.
“We are trying to alleviate poverty along with all our stakeholders, including community caregivers, pastors, various departments and educators,” explained Councillor Sikhosana.

“Such outreach projects are vital. It gives our learners hope. I really appreciate what took place. The issues we have is that the learners come from a poor background, so this is much appreciated, ” expressed Bhekundi Secondary principal Mr Gumbi.
