Estcourt High School (EHS) was one of 10 schools chosen to participate in the South African Science & Technology Agency Competition (SAASTA).

EHS represented the Uthukela District in the competition, which was held in Durban. SAASTA was appointed by the Department of Science & Technology as the implementing agency and plays the role of National Project Management for National Science Week.
It is an annual event aiming to exhibit and communicate awareness in science. Each year, a different theme is chosen and activities are offered around the theme.
The theme for 2019 was ‘Bioprospecting’. The EHS learners debated under the topic ‘Do you think it remains important for South Africa to continue bioprospecting in search of solutions to a myriad of challenges facing the country?’
On August 30, Mr SM Radebe, together with five learners, travelled to Durban for the competition, which took place on August 31 at Durban Girls’ High School. The learners did exceptionally well and EHS is proud of them. Congratulations to Mr Radebe and his team!
