Hindu devotees to mark Navarathri
The nine nights are divided into sets of three nights, to worship the different aspects of the Supreme Goddess.
The Dundee Hindu Temple will observe Navarathri from Sunday (September 29) to October 8.
Daily abeshegam will be conducted at 6am.
Evening prayer services will commence at 6pm with rituals, the rendition of bhajans and kirtans, the offering of flower petals for the 108 Durga mantras, garba and aarthi.
During Navarathri, Hindus worship the ‘shakti’ or power aspect of God, in the form of the universal mother referred to as Durga.
It is the power of this motherhood aspect of God which gives rise to creation, preservation and destruction.
The nine nights are divided into sets of three nights, to worship the different aspects of the Supreme Goddess.
The first three days and nights are devoted to Mother Durga – the remover of the miseries of life, while the second three days and nights are devoted to Mother Lakshmi – the bestower of spiritual wealth.
The last three days and nights are devoted to Mother Saraswathi – the bestower of wisdom and knowledge.
Saraswathi Pooja
On October 4, a special prayer will be held at 3.30pm, especially for all learners and teachers.
All devotees, irrespective of age, are also welcome to this sacred ritual of ‘tongue writing’.
This prayer is dedicated to Mother Saraswathi, the Goddess of music, speech, learning and supreme wisdom and the success of all ventures undertaken is due to her blessing.
All learners must bring a school book and flower petals.
Suhagin Pooja
The Suhagin Pooja and Lakshmi Narayan Vivah will be held on October 5 at 4pm, and thereafter regular daily services will continue.
Durgaand and Kanya Pooja
Chandi hawan and the Kanya Pooja will be held on October 6, commencing at 10am.
Lunch will be served.
On October 8, the bathing of the Mother will commence at 8am with Vijaya Dashmi pooja thereafter.
Transport has been arranged to the Buffalo River at Tayside, where the conclusion of the Navarathri prayer will take place.
The bus will depart at 11am.
“In your daily prayers, spare a thought for all those that are sick, the disadvantaged, the elderly and the victims of war and natural disasters. Pray for peace and non-violence in our country.
Dedicate a prayer to Mother Saraswathi to enable the medical world to find a cure for all the dreaded diseases that plague our nation,”said Geetha Dookhi of the Dundee Hindu Temple. “May Goddess Durga bless all devotees and their families with happiness, prosperity and good health.”
