73rd Friedman Bowls Tournament opens with a rugby flavour

Bowlers declare their support for the Springboks...

The 73rd Friedman Bowls Tournament has rolled open this morning at the Dundee Bowls Club with many players from around KZN clad in green and gold.

They will be a break in play between 11am and 1pm to allow players to watch the Springboks take on England in the Rugby World Cup Final.

The Douthwaite brothers, John, and Trevor of Newcastle, performed their usual cabaret – this time with a rugby theme of course – before Bowling Club President, Greg Conolly, declared the tournament open.

Anton Lee, production manager at Orange Grove, one of the major sponsors of the Friedman, gave a brief rundown as to how Orange Grove has recovered since the devastating April 1 fire that gutted the factory.

Perseverance and hard work has put Orange Grove back on the track.
