The faulty PLC unit at the Tayside Pump Station should soon be up and running after a lightning strike crippled the unit last week, resulting in wide-spread water cuts in Endumeni.

Luiz Cunha, of uThukela Water, confirmed that ‘normal service from the Buffalo River (from where Endumeni receives its water supply) confirmed that the unit will be replaced by Friday.

The water was cut on alternate days between Dundee and Glencoe leading to widespread anger. Low-lying areas were not affected because of gravity feed.

Over 120mm has been measured in central Dundee over the past 10 days.

Mr Cunha said the Ntshingwayo (Chelmsford) dam level has only increased from 65 to 67 %.

“But I don’t think we’ve seen the full effect of the run-off yet. The dam sluices are currently closed and I think we will see the real value of the rains by the end of this week.”
