Recognition of the top academic and sport achievers recently took place at Drakensview Primary School’s senior prize-giving. The learners’ hard work certainly paid off in the end.

First in Grade 7 and 2019 Dux was Aarya Bhikraj, who has enjoyed a great year. She has become a published author, participated in the Eskom Science Expo (winning a gold medal), took part in the Astro Quiz and finally capped it all off by winning seven out of the 10 Grade 7 subject awards.
In the sporting arena, Brydley Nqindi was in a league of his own. He won the ‘Best Sportsman’ award, as well as trophies for rugby and cricket.
He also received the Good Fellowship prize, which advocates lifting the spirit of the school, setting a good example and being a friend to all.
Well done to all the other learners who received trophies and certificates. The Foundation Phase’s final assembly was worked around the theme of ‘Peace Begins With Me’.
Songs and poems reinforcing the theme entertained the packed-to-capacity hall of parents and loved ones. It was an hour of beautiful singing.
The top achievers were rewarded with certificates. Retired Grade 3 educator Mrs Henderson was invited to hand out the special certificates to learners who had gone above and beyond to achieve exceptional things. It is now time to regroup before everything begins again in 2020.
