A 33-year-old man has been charged with being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition following a SAPS swoop in the Msinga area.

Members of the Durban Public Order Police and Greytown Crime Intelligence Units combined to search a home at  Esidakeni at 3am last Friday where five unlicensed firearms which including  three rifles, a pistol and a revolver and 573 rounds of ammunition recovered.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the team for the recovery of unlicensed firearms and the arrest of the suspect. “The eradication of illegal firearms will prevent crime from being committed,” he said.
