Mayor gives municipal staff a stern warning

Cllr Mahlaba called on staff to maintain a high level of work ethic when it came to service delivery.

Municipal employees have been given a firm warning to maintain a high work ethic, at a meeting called by the Mayor of Newcastle, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba, on January 6 at the Farmer’s Hall.

Acting Municipal Manager (MM), Muzi Mayisela opened the meeting and said all challenges at the municipality could be faced and overcome:

“We hope everyone had a good rest and we send our deepest condolences to those who might have lost loved ones during the holiday season. With that said, yes, we have challenges, especially concerning cash flow, and other problems, but none of them are insurmountable and we can overcome them. To achieve this, we need a high work ethic from all employees in the municipality, meaning you must be at work on time, do your work and work hard.”

Cllr Mahlaba then took to the podium and told employees his calling of the meeting was ‘on a good note’:

“Welcome back and we know it might have been a short holiday, but we hope everyone had a good rest. We are certainly not here on a bad note, but I am here to stress we all need to work together. We are all employed as public servants and that means we must serve the public. We must sure what we are appointed for happens.”

Cllr Mahlaba also told employees not to worry about the financial problems at the municipality:

“Yes, we might have cash flow problems, as stated by the MM, but don’t worry, you will get paid on time. Your work level must always be at a high level. We have a mandate to deliver services to the community; electricity, water, sanitation and building houses.”
