The 18-year-old is the top learner in Estcourt and says that pre-examination jitters and anxiety have faded into relief and triumph.

Aaisha achieved A symbols for English Home Language, Afrikaans First Additional Language, History, Life Orientation, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and Accounting.

She secured a B for Mathematics.  These results placed her at the top of the Wembezi circuit.  When asked how she felt prior to the results being released, Aaisha admitted it was nerve-wracking.

“While I knew I had my parents’ prayers all the way, I did feel nervous whenever the topic came up regarding my matric results. Not knowing what to expect is the part that made me anxious, even though I know I had put my all into my finals,” she says.

Last Tuesday evening was a tense time for her, as the results would be in her hands within a few hours.

“I went to purchase the newspaper at around 10.15pm on Tuesday night. I couldn’t wait until I got home, so I sat in the car and using my cell-phone flashlight, I looked through the newspaper. It seemed like everything was in ‘slow-mo’ with the excitement and jitters. After finding my examination number, I felt this huge weight lift from within. I also felt a little disappointed about having missed that eighth distinction,” said the young lass.

Aaisha credits consistency, answering past exam papers and studying for short periods of time as the tools for success.

“I did most of my studying before the trial examinations and after the September holiday, I began revising a small portion of each subject every day,” she said.

Regarding the future, she plans to follow in her sister’s footsteps and pursue a career in the medical field in 2021. For now, she is taking a gap year.

When asked for words of advice for the Grade 12s of 2020, here’s Aaisha’s top tips:
“PRAY – never forget to do this daily! PLAY – make time to have some fun! SLAY – stay focused and put in your best! Yes, matric is a crucial year, but don’t overthink and stress too much. Take it one day at a time and don’t work hard, work SMART!”
