Nquthu man arrested for possession of firearms

In his possession was an automatic rifle, two pistols and assorted rounds of ammunition.

A 45-year-old man from the Nquthu area was arrested, after being found in possession of a ‘small arsenal’ at Ndindindi Reserve recently.

The man was apprehended during an intelligence driven operation by the Public Order Policing Unit in the Nquthu precinct and surrounds. In his possession was an automatic rifle, two pistols and assorted rounds of ammunition.

He was charged and appeared in the Nquthu Magistrate’s Court, and was remanded into custody until January 14, pending a formal bail application.

SAPS KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula applauded police officials for the arrest and recoveries.

“Similar operations are continuing throughout the province, to remove illegal firearms,” he said.
