The 2019 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations – which saw 790 405 candidates sitting for 147 question papers in 7 416 examination centres nationwide – successfully concluded in November 2019.
VHS had 149 candidates who wrote their NCS exams. The results have been released and VHS has reason to celebrate. The overall pass rate has risen from 2018 to an overall pass rate of 95,3 per cent in 2019.
The achievements don’t stop there: a total of 167 subject distinctions were obtained overall, with the following subjects achieving an average of 60 per cent or more: ENGFA, ZULFA, ACCN, PHSC, TRSM, GRMSA and LIFE. 62,7 per cent of the learners passed with the necessary requirement for admission to a Bachelor’s degree.
Congratulations to the Dux learner for 2019, Aliya Paruk. She obtained 6 As in ENGHL (80 per cent), AFRA (89 per cent), MLIT (90 per cent), LIFE (96 per cent), BSTD (92 per cent) and GEOG (82 per cent). Aliya boasted an 86 per cent average.
Kirsten Hellberg, Antoinette Colloty and Tayiba Sheik also achieved six A symbols, Kwandilokuhle Nkosi and Xolile Zulu obtained five As, and Stembokuhle Maphanga, Lana Schoeman, Andi Niebuhr, Thandiswa Cele and Silungile Zondo earned four As.
The following learners achieved three A symbols: Mandisa Mabusa, Manu Minlah, Rebekka Barnard, Mthobisi Thela, Cátia Marques, Asande Zulu, Sibahle Menyuka and Ndumiso Nyawo.
The school is really proud of all the hard work put in by its learners, but none of these results would have been attained without the dedicated teachers. Teachers with a 100 per cent pass rate in one or more of their subjects were: Verster, Vrey, Mentz, Magwaza, Mhlungu, Jv Rensburg, Moolman, vd Berg, Venter, Lourens, Shangase, Khonjelwayo, Boshoff, van Niekerk, Nel, Sadie, Kohlmeyer, E van den Heever, Coetzee, Tschirpig, J Booyens, and van Tonder.
