Update: Municipality finally fixes window pane at Town Hall
The new pane is normal frosted glass and not safety glass

After a long period of time, Alfred Duma Local Municipality has finally fixed the window pane at the Town Hall.
Ladysmith resident Mr Andries van Eck was unhappy that the glass had been left broken for so long and said it was a real eyesore, as the Town Hall is an architectural treasure that was built in 1893.
He is now pleased that the window pane in the side entrance door to the Town Hall in Queen Street has been repaired, but he’s still disappointed that it took the municipality so long to attend to the problem.

The new pane of glass in the door is normal frosted glass and not safety glass.
According to National Building Regulations and the South African Glass & Glazing Association (SAGGA), a door is supposed to have safety glass or shatterproof glass, not normal glass. The reason being that safety glass won’t break in heavy wind or if the door slams, etc.
