Local couple head back to India after teaching in Ladysmith for over 20 years
They travelled all over South Africa during their long stay in the country, and got to experience its beauty and wonder firsthand

Ladysmith residents Mr and Mrs Thottekkat, also known as Mr and Mrs Krishna, will be leaving South Africa shortly and going back to India, where they originally hail from.
The couple arrived in South Africa from India in 1993, with two children aged seven and two. They settled down in Colenso and both started working at Ladysmith Secondary School (Lasec) in 1997.
The year 2000 saw them moving to Ladysmith, where they continued their teaching career.
Speaking to Mr and Mrs Thottekkat, they say that the community of Ladysmith was very welcoming to them and did not treat them like outsiders or foreigners. Before long, they were part of the fabric of the community as Mathematics and Physics teachers at Lasec and Klipriver High School (now Joseph Shabalala Secondary School), and worked in South Africa for 23 years.

Over the years, the Thottekkat family has become a household name in Ladysmith, as they have tutored many children and helped them with their school career.
The family will be leaving Ladysmith on January 31. They will first travel to Richards Bay before heading back to India, where they will be retiring and spending time with family back home.
