Meridian Newcastle learner’s achievement recognised at national Curro Awards

Zondo will be pursuing his dream of studying Astrophysics at the University of the Witwatersrand this year.

Curro, South Africa’s largest JSE-listed independent education provider, held its annual Matric Top Achievers Awards ceremony at Emperors Palace in JHB on January 21.

The event was dedicated to honouring its 2019 top matric performers and schools from around the country. This included learners from Curro schools who have completed the Independent Examinations Board (IEB), National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Cambridge Assessment International Education examinations.

At the ceremony, Curro announced its top three IEB and NSC achievers respectively from the Class of 2019. Among them was Meridian Newcastle’s Sibongakonke Zondo, who claimed a shared second spot in the NSC category with Meridian Pinehurst’s Maziko Joanne Kagoli. They both boasted an excellent 88 per cent average.

Zondo described his matric year as the most mentally taxing year of his life, dedicating six hours after each school day to his studies. With this however, he earned six A symbols in IsiZulu First Additional Language, Mathematics, Life Orientation, Geography, Life Sciences and Physical Sciences.

Zondo will be pursuing his dream of studying Astrophysics at the University of the Witwatersrand this year. Congratulations, Sibongakonke!
