At about 4am, the husband and wife heard the front yard gate being moved.
“At first we thought it was the dog but when we walked into the passage, we saw someone at the front door,” said the wife.
The man at the door was fiercely breaking the glass in an attempt to gain entry to the home.

“The alarm was going off, we were screaming but still the man carried on breaking the glass with an object. My husband threatened that he would get his gun and that made him run off,” she explained.
When the family ventured outside, they discovered that their main gate had been taken off the rail and moved aside, giving easy access to the front door.

Neighbours said that a group of five men had fled from the scene in a ‘new model’ Mercedes Benz.
A case has been opened at the Estcourt Police Station. The family calls on locals to be vigilant, saying that criminals are becoming ‘very brave’.
