#SiegeofLadysmith2020 – Protesters burn cars parked at Social Development last night

There were reports of shots being fired during last night's unrest

Six cars parked at the Social Development offices in the Pieters Industrial Area were destroyed by protesters in the early hours of this morning (March 12).

Police sources have confirmed the incident.

We can also confirm that police and protesters clashed in the Accaciavale area last night, with shots being fired in the Centenary Road area.

Residents in the area reported hearing shots. One resident reported diving for cover as shots rang out. Another claimed to have seen a vehicle being stoned before hearing the shots.

This all forms part of the ongoing shutdown of Ladysmith aimed at removing the mayor of Alfred Duma Local Municipality, Vincent Madlala, whom the organisers of the protest claim has taken sides in the ongoing taxi war between the Sizwe Taxi Association and Klipriver Taxi Association.
