5 suspects busted with guns connected to robbery in Ekuvukeni

3 of the firearms recovered were stolen in a house robbery

Five male suspects were arrested on Thursday (May 7) after they were busted with firearms in the KwaJwili area of Ekuvukeni. The arrests were made by the Newcastle Public Order Policing (POP) Unit.

According to police spokesperson Captain Bongani ‘Skhindi’ Nyathi, Newcastle POP Unit officers recovered four firearms as well as live ammunition in the early hours of Thursday morning while conducting operations in the Ekuvukeni area.

Five suspects aged between 19 and 66 were arrested.

Three of the firearms recovered by police were stolen in a house robbery that was committed a few weeks ago in Ekuvukeni. The owner of the house was robbed of the firearms and other items.
