Woman found strangled to death in Zwelisha

A murder case is being investigated by Ladysmith SAPS

The body of a woman, thought to be in her early 20s, was found dumped in a veld in the Zwelisha area yesterday (June 17).

A community member who was collecting wood on the cold, rainy afternoon found the body and immediately informed the police. There were wounds to the woman’s head and her clothing was dishevelled.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala has confirmed that a case of murder is being investigated by Ladysmith SAPS.

“On June 17 at around 2.30pm, Ezakheni police received a complaint of a murder in the Zwelisha area and proceeded to the scene. On arrival, they found the body of an unknown woman with assault wounds to her body and strangulation marks on her neck,” said Captain Gwala.

In an interview with Ward Councillor Madinane, who also attended the scene of the crime, he said the deceased was not a resident of that area.

This incident comes hot on the heels of President Cyril Ramaphosa condemning the brutal killing of a number of women in South Africa recently.
