Suspected hit-man arrested in Ezakheni

A pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition was found during a search of the house

A 30-year-old man suspected of being a hit-man made a brief appearance in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (June 30), facing charges of being in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

The case was postponed until July 15.

The suspect was arrested on Monday (June 29) while Ezakheni police officers were conducting an operation aimed at combating criminal activities happening in the area.

Police received a tip-off about the location of the alleged hit-man and swooped on a house in Ezakheni B-Section.

According to Provincial SAPS spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala, police conducted a search of the house. During the raid, a pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition was found. The firearm’s serial number had been filed off.

The suspect was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He is also suspected of being involved in a murder that was committed in the area.

The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used to commit any crimes.

The suspect’s cell-phones were also seized for further investigation.
