Stock thieves flee into the bushes as police close in

3 cattle and 3 goats were found in the back of the stolen bakkie

A tip-off led to police recovering stolen livestock and a stolen bakkie on Wednesday last week (June 24).

Police officers from Weenen were alerted by members of the community about a bakkie they suspected to be transporting stolen livestock. The officers sprang into action and proceeded to the area in question.

A bakkie was then spotted on the R74 highway to Greytown. The occupants stopped the vehicle when they saw that police were tailing them, and fled into the bushes.

Three cattle and three goats were found in the back of the bakkie.

It was discovered that the livestock were stolen from Gomba Reserve in Colenso. The bakkie was stolen from Inanda on April 28 during a business robbery.

The Pietermaritzburg Stock Theft Unit was alerted about the incident and the search for the suspects is continuing.
